Access: 18 km north of Auckland. SH1 to Greville Rd turnoff before Albany. Left into East Coast Road, then right, 10 km further north to Redvale and into Haighs Access Rd.

Length: 9 km — 3 hours to Dacre Cottage return, or to Stillwater exit.

Footwear: Walking shoes or boots.

The walkway has an entrance at the end of Haighs Access Rd and another at the Stillwater road end. From Haighs Rd the track crosses a bridge over the Okura River, climbs steeply through maturing forest then descends to the estuary coastline, with chances to spot wading birds. The track reaches Dacre Point through bush and a pine forest edging. The pohutukawas at the point grow on a pa site. A steep descent to Karepiro Beach follows, to the historic sea captain’s cottage, restored from the 1 850s original. Dacre cottage is a turning destination, but the walk-through to Stillwater is accessed at a small stream at the northern end of the beach. It crosses a bush-clad ridge, then follows the Weiti River Estuary, crossing some private land to Stillwater.
